Tenuta Poggio Golo

The Poggio Golo Estate is located in Cervognano, an area known for its superlative "Nobile" Montelpulciano wines found in the hills ranging from Val d'Orcia to Val di Chiana.

It was following the natural calling of its earth, cultivated for centuries with traditional and historic methods, that we have uncovered its prodigious talent: the production of grapes.

The magnificent vines, the meticulous care taken in every productive activity and the highquality raw materials are the ingredients that add to the natural vocation of the land and enable our wine to exude elegance and harmony.

Poggio Golo extends for a total of 11 hectares of which five compose the vineyard with southern, eastern and western exposures. Therefore, the land, powerful and argillaceous, is in a position to render a bold structure to the wines that we produce.

The cultivation system of the vineyards is comprised in part of the Guyot and Speronato Cord technologies, with a density ranging between 5,000 and 6,000 plants per hectare.

The vines cultivated by Poggio Golo are those typical of Montepulciano: Prugnolo Gentile, Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, San Giovese as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, identifying its geographic authenticity.

The constant search of the maximum qualitative characteristics of a territory as grand and full of oenological potential as ours, places us in a position to lend great cure and effect the selective pruning of the vines, maintaining grape production at approximately 50 q/ha.
After the grapevines have been delicately pruned, the must flower ferments in steel basins for 10-15 days with frequent daily inoculation.

The wine is then aged for two years in precious French oak barrels, after which it is transferred to glass bottles for an additional 12 months.
